đŸ€š What Is RSI?

What is RSI?

RSI stands for Reactive Strength Index. It is a scientific method to assess an individual's ability to "bounce".

In order to run fast an individual needs to have sufficient "bounce".

Keep in mind that having a good bounce or RSI score does not automatically make you fast since sprinting is complex and requires many variables.

However, if your "bounce"  or RSI score is low, it will be difficult to make significant speed improvements and should be prioritized.

We have an entire course on this topic inside the Sprint Club called "Speed Bounce".

📃 How to do a 10-5 Test

Our official procedure:

1. Perform a squat jump from the ground with the hands on the waist.

2. Upon making contact with the ground, perform 10 jumps as fast as possible similar to pogo hops with the hands on the waist.

Rules:

1. Hands must be on the waist at all times.

2. The test begins with and includes the first ground contact after the squat jump.

3. No shoes are allowed. Socks or barefoot are fine.

4. The surface allowed is wood, track, or dirt. Using a trampoline, surface, or object that provides a significant unfair advantage is not allowed.

5. The video must be filmed from the front, full body, and as low to the ground as possible in order to ensure no cheating and maximum accuracy when measuring ground contacts.

How the assessment is measured:

We will count the ground contact and airtime of the 10 hops after the first squat jumps.

This includes the first ground contact after the squat jump.

To get your RSI score we will average your 5 best jumps and use the equation (airtime / ground contact time).

For The Cheaters:

If we suspect cheating, we will either ask for a retest or immediately disqualify the participant.
